Informing opposites
Most of the things I learned in high school have probably spilled out from my ears and erased itself from my memory. But I’ll always remember Mrs. Hallford’s discussion about informing opposites. Seems simple right? Most fundamentally, it’s the idea that informing opposites cannot exist without another. In the beginning, references the Genesis, light cannot possibly exist without dark. One cannot be despondent or sad if one did not at first know happiness. So what is better? To know love and have lost it? To know what a privileged life is then have it taken away? Or to have nothing at all, as to never experiences the emptiness that’s left when your precious things are taken away?
